Exercise-Oncology (Cancer)
We specialise in working with individuals with a cancer diagnosis, and have the expertise to prescribe appropriate and safe exercise for those undergoing anti-cancer treatment.
Grace has a special interest working with individuals who are facing, or have had a diagnosis of breast, gynaecological, bowel, haematological and melanoma cancer diagnosis. She has experience working with individuals from the very start of diagnosis, supporting them through active treatment (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy or targeted therapies), during prehab/rehabilitation and into the survivorship or palliative care phase.
No matter where you are along the cancer continuum, we can support you with tailored and individualised exercise advice.
Working in the exercise oncology space, I have specialised expertise in this area, and understand the implications patients undertaking cancer-treatment face everyday.
Exercise helps to manage many of the side effects of anti-cancer therapy such as fatigue, loss of physical function and strength. Twenty years ago the advice was ‘rest is best’ and now, the research strongly supports exercise and physical activity from the time of diagnosis, right through active treatment and beyond. We encourage individuals to avoid physical inactivity, as this can often make the symptoms of cancer and the side effects of anti-cancer therapies worse. However, we understand exercise at this time can be a challenging to implement (especially if this is new for you, or it’s been a while since you put on your pair of runners), so seeking guidance and support from an AEP is beneficial.
We tailor exercise to the individual and ensure what is prescribed is safe and appropriate, depending on individual diagnosis, treatment and side effects that you may be experiencing.
For those living with cancer, working with an AEP and accessing the correct information to support their treatment and journey is crucial.
We are passionate about implementing the latest research findings into our clinical practice, to provide the most up-to-date education and exercise prescription to help improve the lives of those living with cancer.
